Meet Dr. Dickerson
Please welcome Dr. Rachel Dickerson starting July 1st, 2022!!
Dr. Rachel Dickerson is a primary care physician dual board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. She grew up just south of St. Louis in Jefferson County. Her parents taught math and science and have been her biggest supporters since her decision to become a doctor was first declared at age five. After graduating from Hillsboro High School, she left home for Rice University in Houston, Texas, with sights still set on medical school. At Rice she took advantage of research and volunteer positions just across the street in the Texas Medical Center, earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and met her eventual husband in the Marching Owl Band. She stayed on the Gulf and earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
After medical school, Dr. Dickerson completed a combined residency program in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics (aka Med-Peds). For four years, she spent equal time between the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospitals caring for all ages and some of the most medically complex kids and adults. In 2012, she returned home to start her primary care practice in the St. Louis area.
Dr. Dickerson prides herself in being a “comprehensivist.” Her patients appreciate her thoroughness and the time she takes to get to know them and address each of their concerns. While she provides excellent medical advice and expertise, she also serves as her patients’ coach, advocate, and navigator through an increasingly complicated and costly healthcare system. In her prior work for large hospital and corporate employers, she saw how insurance companies and non-medical administrators influenced the practice of medicine to the detriment of doctors and patients. Dr. Dickerson was drawn to direct primary care to offer her patients a more accessible, higher standard of personalized care at an affordable price. She is delighted to be joining Drs. Otto and Allen in this new adventure and looks forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new patients at the sproutMD office starting in July of 2022!
Dr. Dickerson lives with her husband, three boisterous children, and their dog, Luna. She enjoys cooking, hiking, and quiet time with a cup of coffee.
